Despite a few small quibbles, the lightweight and foldable Parrot ANAFI is an extremely compelling addition to the camera drone arena and a better-equipped product than anything else in its immediate price band. Flight time is exemplary, the drone is near silent in flight and you’ll love the amazing camera and zoom.

The Parrot Anafi puts all emphasis on size—the small, folding drone is ideal for travel, thanks to 4K video capture, a small airframe, and USB charging.

The Anafi gives with one hand and takes with the other. It can capture great 4K HDR video and detailed photos, but hides away other features behind in-app purchases. There's no obstacle avoidance either, but if you're a confident pilot the Anafi will allow you to capture some stunning footage.

Parrot Anafi Drone Review

The Anafi Drone won’t win any aesthetic awards, but do you want a drone that functions or a drone that looks awesome? It’s long operating range and fantastic image and video quality are what set the Parrot Anafi Drone apart from other beginner drones in its class. It would be nice if it functioned great and looked cool, sure, but in this case you have to pick one or the other.

This new 4K HDR-capable drone can't catch the competition.

While Parrot's price is $100 less than the DJI does for the Mavic Air, you're losing way more than $100 worth of value. It's easily Parrot's best drone yet, but it still feels miles behind DJI, and this foray doesn't make it seem like it's ever likely to catch up.

The 4K foldable DJI rival that could shake up the industry

This thin, bug-like drone is an excellent choice for flight experts and filmmakers. Its incredible vertical range camera captures 4K UHD films and 21MP photos, plus sports 2.8x lossless zoom. Its lightweight, slim frame won’t take up much room in your bag. But, the lack of obstacle avoidance makes it difficult to recommend over DJI for newbies.

FLYING HIGH, BUT FALLING SHORT

Overall,Overall, Parrot has made the best competitor to a mainstream DJI drone in years. But just showing up isn’t enough, to really matter, the Anafi had to be better than the DJI Mavic Air, and unfortunately, it’s far from that. This drone is close to being good, but I had too many issues that outweigh its potential. In addition to the buggy software, the experience I had just wasn’t as fun or rewarding as what you get with the Mavic Air.

A well-rounded device, but fails to carve out a niche for itself

The Parrot Anafi is one of the few drones we've tested that can come anywhere close to the performance of the competing DJI models. That being said, we're still not sure if we would recommend it to most people. It performs quite well and is somewhat reasonably priced, but similarly priced DJI models provide a solid jump up in video quality and offer better flight performance. So if you can afford just a bit extra, we would recommend taking that route. This puts the Anafi in a weird place, where you can get much better performance by spending just a little more or get similar performance by spending much less.

Excellent Folding Video Drone

The Anafi is Parrot's play for the new category of drones small enough to fit into a backpack or bag for hiking but good enough to take high-quality videos of the stunning vistas you find out there. And it's a good play: The $699 Anafi is smaller, lighter and less expensive than the Mavic Air, and it takes excellent-quality 4K video, too. It isn't perfect, though: We found it got buffeted by wind a little too easily.
