DJI Phantom 3 Advanced Specification

Overview

The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced is a Multirotors drone that was released by DJI in 2015.

A multirotor drone is a multiple propeller, vertical lift drone. These drones are more maneuverable due to their flight profile, being able to fly much closer to buildings and other obstacles. Multi-rotor drones like the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced also tend to be faster to deploy, and tend to be significantly cheaper to acquire and operate.

The battery capacity inside is 6000 mAh.

Performance

The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced sits on the slower side of drones, with a max speed sitting around 16 m/s. This might not be a bad thing though, so it really depends on why you're looking at buying the drone. If you're happy with a slightly slower drone then this one could be what you're after.

Falling inside a decent flight range for drones at 5 km, you'd be safe to fly it outside of line-of-sight. You won't be disappearing to the other side of the city, but you will get more than enough range for average and above-average usage.

With a well above the average maximum range of 5 km, you're guaranteed a long-distance flight. Be assured you'll reach the distance you need, from the comfort of your mobile office, or even your couch, and know that your drone won't just disappear off into the distance.

The drone sits well within an average flight time when compared to other drones, with a maximum flight time of 23 min. This flight time will be plenty of the average user, and should give you more than enough time between charges. You can always bring an extra battery to swap out between flights, or just a battery pack to charge it up as you go should you need a little more flight time.

Overall I was positively impressed by this Phantom 3 Advanced. Definitely the biggest advantage over its competitors is the excellent control range and the HD video down link. In terms of design I was not impressed at all. There are other models with more professional design on the market (but this is only a matter of taste). While the package includes everything you need for your first flight, an extra battery would make it even more attractive. The DJI GO App offers countless possibilities but if you forget at home your mobile device you will be almost like hands tied. The P3A flies beautifully, the Vision positioning system allows to be flown even indoor. Both 1080P@60fps and 2.7k@30fps videos look great. Considering its price and if you don’t need 4K resolution the Phantom 3 Advanced is one of the best mid range quadcopter.

The DJI Phantom 3 advanced is one of the mid-range models in the Phantom line, and it occupies that slot nicely. It produces good, stable footage with its 2.7K camera, has a great video downlink, a top notch controller, good flight performance, and a great interface. If the Phantom 3 Advanced happens to match your maximum drone budget and you want to eek out every possible bit of performance for your money, then this model will serve you well.

The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced is a great little aerial photo and video machine, however it's the whole system -- the drone, the controller and the app -- that make it so easy to pick up and just start flying. It's not inexpensive, but compared with the $900 Parrot Bebop with its Skycontroller , you won't regret spending the extra money. And if you don't need the Professional's 4K video, you can put your money toward a spare battery or two so the good times don't come to an end after 20 minutes.

Even though it's priced a few hundred dollars higher, the Phantom 3 Professional is still our Editors' Choice for consumer drones. The ability to record at 4K quality is a big plus, as the format is becoming more mainstream than niche. But if you're on a tighter budget, the Advanced is a fine second choice: it's one of the best drones out there right now.
