Performance

The DJI Mavic 2 Pro falls within an 'average' speed of drones with a max speed of around 72 km/h. If you're a beginner or even an intermediate drone user, than this should still be plenty. if you're looking for something a bit faster however, it'd be best to keep looking.

With a well above the average maximum range of 18 km, you're guaranteed a long-distance flight. Be assured you'll reach the distance you need, from the comfort of your mobile office, or even your couch, and know that your drone won't just disappear off into the distance.

The drone sits well within an average flight time when compared to other drones, with a maximum flight time of 31 min. This flight time will be plenty of the average user, and should give you more than enough time between charges. You can always bring an extra battery to swap out between flights, or just a battery pack to charge it up as you go should you need a little more flight time.

There’s no point being coy about it—the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is the benchmark by which all future small and mid-size drones are going to be measured. It shoots amazing footage, packs into your backpack, and does just about everything in its power to prevent you from accidentally destroying it. It’s what the majority of drone shoppers on the market today probably want in a drone. If you can afford it, this is the one to get.

Now overshadowed by the DJI Air 2S, but still worth considering

The Mavic 2 Pro remains one of the best drones you can buy, although it's now been overshadowed by the arrival of the DJI Air 2S. The Air 2S brings significant size and weight savings, and these give it the edge over this older model. But if you need features like variable aperture, the Mavic 2 Pro is still worth considering – and its 20MP, 1-Inch sensor is capable of shooting some of the best 4K video and raw stills you'll get from a consumer drone.

If DJI’s next big drone is just around the corner, ready to push the price of the Mavic 2 Pro down, buying it right now might not make sense for everyone. Make no mistake, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro is definitely a drone worth getting hyped up about. But unless you’re a diehard, it’s feels like a reach to say it’s going to be worth grabbing on day one at full-price.

By now, you can probably already tell that I am a big fan of the Mavic 2 Pro. I have had a wonderful experience with it and I am happy to share some of the photographs and the footage I was able to get with our readers. Without a doubt, it is a truly versatile drone that can take stunning images and videos. What about the Mavic Air? Do I still recommend it to our readers? Absolutely. In fact, I think both drones excel on their own. The Mavic Air is significantly lighter, cheaper and smaller compared to the Mavic 2 Pro, so it is perfectly suitable for doing more localized aerial work. If I need to grab quick footage of a subject during the day, I would not hesitate to use the Mavic Air. However, if I want a much more versatile tool for capturing distant landscapes or wildlife, or perhaps if I am dealing with a sunrise or sunset situation with a large dynamic range, then the Mavic 2 Pro is the right tool for the job.

DJI has once again revolutionized the consumer drone market with the Mavic 2 Pro. In our opinion, the only reason not to get this drone is if you can't stomach the hefty price tag. Otherwise, it is near perfect, providing top-quality video, a maximum flight time of 31 minutes, a maximum speed of 45mph — all this while weighing just 2 pounds and folding down into a sleek package that easily fits into a backpack. This drone even offers some advanced features that are tailored to professional filmmakers, like film in a 10-bit DLog-M color profile. Bottom line, this consumer drone is both portable and creates incredibly rich footage without making any sacrifices in either category.

Couple the video quality with the ability to record footage at dual angles of view, excellent still imaging, and the incredible stabilization delivered by the Mavic 2's gimbal stabilization, and you've got a drone that's easy to love. Yes, you pay a high cost, but the Mavic 2 Pro is the best folding drone we've flown, so it's our Editors' Choice.

As a platform, the Mavic 2 is fantastic. Personally, I’m not as drawn to the Zoom. It’s just not a feature I see myself using that often, and frankly I’d rather stick with the DJI Mavic Air because it’s just so much lighter and more compact. The Pro, however, has me thinking twice. The image quality is just so dang good that, when combined with the improved tracking and omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, it’s hands-down my new top recommendation for drones.
