Performance

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro falls within an 'average' speed of drones with a max speed of around 72 km/h. If you're a beginner or even an intermediate drone user, than this should still be plenty. if you're looking for something a bit faster however, it'd be best to keep looking.

With a well above the average maximum range of 7 km, you're guaranteed a long-distance flight. Be assured you'll reach the distance you need, from the comfort of your mobile office, or even your couch, and know that your drone won't just disappear off into the distance.

The drone sits well within an average flight time when compared to other drones, with a maximum flight time of 30 min. This flight time will be plenty of the average user, and should give you more than enough time between charges. You can always bring an extra battery to swap out between flights, or just a battery pack to charge it up as you go should you need a little more flight time.

If you don’t care so much about portability, Yuneec’s Typhoon H is also a worthy contender, and is more affordable at $999. It boasts many of the same features, and has a 4K camera that swivels a full 360 degrees. This, along with dual-pilot capabilities, make it a decent contender. However, the Typhoon H’s camera is not as advanced, the battery doesn’t last quite as long, and it needs more time to charge.

With the release of the Phantom 4 Pro, DJI once again has raised the bar for aerial photography. With its 4k camera and stabilised gimbal you can pretty much take professional-grade photos and its 5-way obstacle avoidance technology will make for safer flying. Thanks to its advanced flight technology and autonomous flight modes even beginners will find operating this drone very easy. With its range of features, the drone can be used for photography, videography and even photogrammetry, although, DJI have specialised drones for enterprise use like the Phantom 4 RTK.

When it launched, the Phantom 4 Pro looked like a superb iterative update, but this drone did not get the credit it deserves. The newer Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is the superior drone, but the differences are subtle. This airframe has proven effective for hobby and commercial purposes, putting multiple payloads into the sky.

The Phantom 4 Pro hits a sweet spot between price and performance, but one thing you really need to account for is how fun and easy it is to fly. There's a beginner mode that caps your top speed and steering, but once you take the training wheels off, you can fang about with top speeds of 45mph (72kmh) in sports mode. Giddy-up.
